Any plans for your future? How far will you go?
Check out Raffrey!
Once again, Raffrey Presbyterian Church will be hosting a large scale event to showcase a vast range of Christian mission service opportunities.
This year, on Sunday 12 February, will see a special church service for everyone at 3.30 p.m., then an exhibition in the church halls involving 17 different Christian mission agencies from 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Following this, the monthly Youth Rally will be held at 8.45 p.m.
The special speaker at the church service will be Mr Bill McAllister, a member of a famous missionary family. His parents, Bob and Alma McAllister, served in Congo with UFM (Unevangelised Fields Mission) until they had to flee, with their young family, under threat of death following a bloody rebellion which cost six other missionaries their lives. This traumatic incident, together with the emotional return of Bob and his two sons to Congo, now Zaire, was the basis of a television documentary that was made and screened in 2015 by the BBC.
The exhibition will involve an increased number of mission agencies, since the last event in 2012. Those who come along will be able to talk to missionary organisations that can provide a range of service opportunities – from one week, to short term and even longer term. The locations for service go right round the world, from many places throughout Ireland, both north and south, to the continents of Africa and South America, to mainland Europe and the Far East.
The minister of Raffrey Presbyterian Church, Rev Brian Small, commented “We have had the privilege of supporting one of our own church members in Cameroon for over 40 years. Since 2000, we have seen a large number of our mainly younger members offering themselves for short term Christian service in Uganda, Nigeria, Canada, Poland, Hungary, as well as all over Ireland. Once they go in Christ’s name, to work for him, they come back as different people. We hope that many will come and join with us on 12 February and be excited by the opportunities to share the Gospel of Christ, both by word and deed, with those who need to hear His life-changing message.”
The exciting day will end with the monthly Youth Rally, when the speaker will be Pastor George McConnell, from Kilkeel Baptist Tabernacle. This well-established monthly event provides young people and young adults with feed on God’s Word, as well as sharing hot dogs with their friends.
